EWE Biogas plants
Our commitment

The EWE Biogas GmbH & Co. KG operates three (3) biogas power plants with an overall installed electrical capacity of about six (6) megawatts. For this reason, we play an active role in improving and protecting our environment and thus combating the climate change problem. Maximal utilisation of renewable energies and reduced use of fossil resources in this sense stands a better chance. Slurry (animal manure) from the cattle rearing farms and organic waste from food industries is fed into the digesters and metabolised into biogas and farm fertilizer. Through the additional utilisation of leftovers, the efficiency of the system is improved while a more effective food production chain is attained.

The generated electricity from biogas is fed into the National grid for distribution. The remaining biomass, digestate, forms high quality fertilizer which is highly needed by farmers in the region. Here, through the employment of this fertilizer in the farms, the unpleasant odour emanating from these raw materials and the problems attached to their handling are significantly reduced. Our certified waste management facility offers a very secure and convenient way to qualify for waste treatment and power production from wastes. A larger satisfied client base is already benefiting and taking advantage of our services.

EWE herself strives, within the field of renewable energies to essentially progress with achieving and modelling an ecologically sensitive power generation scheme. For instance in November 2007, a new Biogas upgrading plant was inaugurated in Werlte (in Lower Saxony). It was the first of a kind in the country and the only one in Northern Germany. The plant is coupled to the Werlte Biogas power plant. Therein, the constituent biogas in the concentration plant is upgraded to the quality of natural gas and then fed into the local gas network. Thus, it is now possible to use biogas on a wider scale.
